When Should I Book My Wedding Cake?
You’re starting to plan your wedding - exciting! It’s a pretty huge feat, with a to-do list as long as your arm. However, professional cake makers will definitely help you feel cool, calm and collected, so be mindful of who you are choosing to help you organise your big day.
Your bespoke wedding cake shouldn’t be a last minute scramble. Cutting your wedding cake is the moment when you and your new spouse officially become a team, and it should be given the thought it deserves.
Booking your wedding cake early
Ideally, you should start booking your wedding cake 6 to 9 months in advance, but in my humble opinion, the earlier the better! I know, it feels like your wedding is a lifetime away, but professional cake designers do book up fast. Sometimes really fast. If you envision a wedding cake that feels personal and meaningful to you and your big day, booking a cake artist early is so important. They’ll have more time to get to know you and your style and will be able to create something truly special.
Wedding cake deposits are a must
Deposits are like frosting - it holds everything together. Without a deposit your wedding date is still available for other couples to book, so it’s important to put your deposit down with your favourite designer fast, if you don’t want to miss out. I usually ask my customers for a £100 - £150 deposit, other bakers might ask for a little more, often 50% of the predicted overall cost. Think of it as your way of saying, “Yes, I’m serious about my wedding cake and I really love your designs”.
Not only does it secure your date, but it also ensures that the cake designer you love the most is yours, so they can dedicate their time to you and your bespoke wedding cake. No one can step in front of you.

Give your wedding cake the time it deserves
My advice to couples is always book your wedding cake early and put down that deposit before your dream cake gets snapped up by someone else. If you’re ahead of the game, you’ll have one less thing to stress about. And your wedding cake will be all the better for it.
